About CEED Concordia
CEED Concordia is a student-funded, student-led nonprofit organization based at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec with a sister office in Gulu, Uganda. Since 2006, CEED Concordia has offered Canadian and Ugandan students opportunities to contribute to sustainable community projects in the form of internships, competitions, programs and employment opportunities. Through our initiatives we are working to shape better communities and future leaders for a better tomorrow.
Position Overview:
We are currently looking for an emerging leader to manage our Canadian office and programming. The Regional Director – Canada will oversee all operations and initiatives within CEED Concordia office based in Montreal. This pivotal role demands strong leadership, strategic acumen, and adept resource management to drive organizational objectives. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Regional Director will supervise CEED Concordia’s staff in Canada, synchronize efforts across offices in Canada and Uganda, and foster collaboration with partner organizations. Travel, including annual visits to Uganda for approximately four months, is an integral aspect of this role.
Key Responsibilities
▶ Canada Office Responsibilities:
- HR Management:
- Recruit, hire, and train staff as necessary, ensuring compliance with Canadian labor laws and organizational policies.
- Provide guidance and support to staff members, fostering a positive work environment and professional growth opportunities.
- Budget Management:
- Develop and manage the annual budget for the Canada office, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and financial sustainability.
- Monitor expenses, analyze variances, and make recommendations for adjustments to ensure CEED operates within the scope of its budget.
- Develop work plans and budgets for the Canada office, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and operational needs.
- Legal Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant Canadian laws and regulations, including those related to employment, taxation, and nonprofit governance.
- Oversee contract management and legal agreements, working closely with legal counsel as required.
- Program Development:
- Identify opportunities for program growth and development within the Canadian context, working closely with stakeholders to design and implement effective initiatives.
- Monitor program outcomes and make data-driven decisions to optimize impact and effectiveness.
- Grant Writing:
- Research funding opportunities and prepare grant proposals to secure financial support for programs and initiatives in Canada.
- Maintain relationships with funders and partners, providing regular updates on program activities and outcomes.
- Reporting:
- Prepare regular reports for funders, the Board of Directors, and other stakeholders, highlighting achievements, challenges, and financial performance.
- Ensure accuracy and transparency in all reporting activities, adhering to established timelines and guidelines.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Advocate on behalf of the organization by representing CEED at various functions throughout the year, developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, promoting the organization’s programming, and seeking out new funding opportunities.
- Develop strong relations with Concordia University’s student body and other beneficiaries, and ensure CEED’s professional reputation and values are maintained within networks, project teams, and partner organizations.
- Attend and/or speak in academic and community events hosted by CEED Concordia.
▶ Collaboration with Deputy Director in Uganda:
- Strategic Planning:
- Develop organization-wide strategies and work plans in conjunction with the Board of Directors, ensuring alignment with overarching goals and objectives
- Organization-Wide Budget:
- Collaborate on the development and management of the organization-wide budget, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and operational needs across both regions.
- Reporting to BOD:
- Coordinate with the Deputy Director in Uganda to provide comprehensive reports to the Board of Directors, covering activities, achievements, and challenges from both regions.
- Internship Program:
- Oversee the organization’s internship program in collaboration with the Deputy Director in Uganda, providing opportunities for professional development and capacity-building for emerging leaders from diverse backgrounds.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferably in management, sustainability and international development, or in a related field;
- Experience managing a team and a demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed environment with minimal supervision;
- Superior interpersonal skills with colleagues, Board members, interns/volunteers and partners;
- Experience organizing public events and conducting fundraising activities;
- Demonstrated project management abilities, strong multi-tasking and organizational skills;
- Experience and/or openness to working in diverse cultural contexts;
- Fluent in written and spoken English; Functional in written and spoken French.
Assets
- Master’s degree in management, sustainability and international development, or in a related field;
- Experience in and knowledge of CEED Concordia, Uganda and/or the East African community;
- Knowledge or experience working with a Board of Directors;
- Leadership experience in nonprofit, social enterprise or social justice organizations.
Salary and Benefits
This position offers a 2-year contract with a salary ranging from $40,000 to $50,000 CAD per year, depending on experience, for a full-time commitment. Additionally, CEED Concordia provides 4 weeks of annual vacation, along with a 2-week closure over the winter holidays. You will also have access to medical insurance for the time of your contract.
