Impacts

Introduction

At CEED, we believe that it is vital to monitor and evaluate the impact of our projects. We want to know what we’ve accomplished in our projects and how to do better. Learn about the impacts of our three core projects: Environmental Sustainability, Youth Entrepreneurship and Youth Advocacy and Communications.

Environmental Sustainability Project

With approximately 3-4 school partnerships every year, interns develop lesson plans and facilitate workshops on waste management and composting systems for students to engage in.

In conjunction with the annual Gulu Go Green Marathon, interns are also tasked to monitor and evaluate planted tree seedlings that were raised from the marathon.

In our first year of workshops, our team of interns carried out workshops successfully, engaging approximately 90 students and building three compost systems in three different secondary schools.

Interns of the Environmental Sustainability Project partner with secondary schools to construct low-cost and sustainable compost systems to reduce the burning of organic wastes in schools.

The Youth Advocacy and Communications is entering its fourth year, where interns work alongside a local radio station, Radio Rupiny 95.7 FM, to produce the monthly “Young Achievers Radio Show”.

Youth Advocacy and Communications Project

The radio show serves as a platform for youth in Gulu to share their stories as a means to motivate and inspire other youth in their communities. Every year, interns scout for youth success stories throughout the Gulu community, looking specifically for youth between the ages of 18 and 35.

Leading up to the radio show date, interns select a young achiever for the month, interview them and produce a mini-documentary about their story. Mini-documentaries are used to promote the upcoming radio show and are featured online through CEED’s various media platforms.

Youth Entrepreneurship Project

Previously, for the first two years, the Youth Entrepreneurship Project selected youth community organizations in Gulu in advance, trained them to develop business plans and assisted in its execution.

Now, interns accept group applicants for training workshops and the possibility of participating in a business showcase and competition, where three groups are selected to receive start-up capital for their business.

In 2019, 20 groups applied, where 47 youth advanced to the business training workshops and 6 groups competing in the final competition.

The Youth Entrepreneurship Project has been running for 4 years, now holding workshops and a competition for entrepreneur groups to receive start-up capital.

Video Documentary

The video documentary compliments and highlights the grassroots efforts of local stakeholders and organizations. The filming process and the films aim to be inclusive, participatory and accessible to the Gulu community. The documentaries often highlight critical issues that affect youth in the Gulu community
